NSW Railway Stations

From the birth of the public railway in NSW, railway stations have been one of the most important buildings constructed in NSW and an integral part of railway heritage.

The first railway stations built in 1855, were Sydney, Newtown, Ashfield, Burwood, Homebush and Parramatta Junction. These stations serviced the opening of the railway, and became known as “the great trunk line”.

The railway opened up the state, and beyond, as the means to transport people and produce throughout the state, with over 300 railway stations still operating in NSW.
